Nina reflects on her journey from a Navy brat with a passion for gymnastics to facing challenges after an injury cut short her college career and Olympic dreams. She highlights the launch of her "Now What" workshop, aimed at building resilience and navigating tough times. Nina also shares her transition into the tech world, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning, asking questions, and adapting to new opportunities.
In the first part of this episode, Nina discusses her early life as a Navy brat, moving frequently and discovering her passion for gymnastics. By age 13, she moved away from home to train at an elite center, which shaped her independence, discipline, and drive. Nina competed internationally, even rooming with Mary Lou Retton, but missed qualifying for the 1984 Olympics. Followed by a knee injury that ended her college gymnastics career, she left struggling with identity and purpose.
