https://www.bcast.fm/blog/how-to-start-a-podcastTranscript:
Okay. The big question. How to start a podcast in this very short audio, I'm going to be going through the six steps you have to get, right. If you're going to start a podcast, but firstly, let's try to understand why you should be starting a podcast. Whenever I try to understand a complex question like that.
I look at what the really intelligent people are doing, and there's really intelligent people working at apple, Google, Spotify, Amazon, of course. And so all of these companies are investing in the podcasting space. Apple obviously have just rebranded or refresh apple podcasts. They also have invested very heavily in AirPods.
Google have refreshed Google podcasts and Google podcast manager. Recently, Spotify are focusing heavily on podcasts, buying up loads of companies and et cetera. Amazon has also obviously developed the Alexa, which is podcast compatible and have recently introduced podcasts to Amazon music. So we look at all these really, really intelligent people that the reason why you should start a podcast, but now let's get into the actual like process of starting a podcast.
Step one, you have to develop a plan. And by that, I mean, why do you want to start a podcast? How much do you want to start a podcast? Because it's going to be hard. It's going to be a long road, but if you. Adhere to the principles in this audio, you are very likely to succeed. And so once you understand that you then have to define what if the topic what's the big idea?
What if the reason for this podcast existing? Next we move on to who are the listeners, who is the perfect, you're going to the person you're going to add value to. If you don't do that, if you don't find someone who you're going to add value to, you're not going to have a successful podcast. You have to build an audience.
Whether you want to use the podcast for networking or not, you need to have an audience. If you're going to thrive in the world of podcasting. Next let's talking. Talk about naming. It needs to be concise. Insert relevant keywords. If you can make it easy on the tongue, keep it simple and look out for rhyme and alliteration opportunities.
Cause that's that helps people. Ashley. Remember your show? Here's some examples of other podcasts on beat cast. Sales ops demystified. So this, uh, no alliteration, but it includes that core word, mobile growth and pancakes is a little bit different than some mobile growth show shine. A podcast by star is simple.
It's short. It clearly shows the audience what the podcast is going to be about and then be more a podcast by pecan. This is a name which have aspirational. So once you have the name, you then need to move on to how you're going to describe the podcast. Uh, what is the two sentences that will very clearly show you exactly or show the, listen to exactly what the podcast is about and why they should listen.
You, then you have to choose the categories because we're going to be putting that into apple. Then you need to define the format. So is this going to be an interview show? It's going to be a monologue podcast. Is this going to be a co-host a podcast or is this going to be a story-based podcast? How long the FAA is going to be?
The most common length of a podcast episode is up to 30 minutes or 34% up to an hour is about 23%. Up to 15 minutes is 24. So shoot for between 15 and 30, you then need to define how often you're going to publish the answer to this question is always. At the greatest frequency you possibly can whilst maintaining the quality.
So if you want to do this podcasting thing, well, you need to be banging out regular, regular content, but it has to be good if you can't do good content weekly, do it by weekly. If you can't do good content biweekly. And that's all the prep you need to do for the show. Next let's talk about equipment. So what equipment do we need to, uh, to record?
There's really three core things. We need a microphone. We recommend the blue Yeti link will be below. You need headphones. We recommend the audio Technica headphones. Again, link will be below, and then you need a pop filter. These are three things. After that, we need some software. We need zoom. If you're going to be recording with guests and we need audacity.
If you're going to be recording on your own, if you're doing both of those, I'm actually recommend using both. So you record on zoom to get the guests audio, and you record on audacity free software link below to get your a local recording, which will be higher quality. Next of course, we need someone to host these audio files.
I may be biased, but we've spent two years building what we believe to be the best podcast hosts for businesses for marketers. It's called podcast. If you look at the domain now you'll probably see this. So just search us, set up a free trial. I'll reach out. Personally. I reached out to when you free trials personally.
To help you out, highly recommend this moving on to actually recording. So before you sit down to prep your episode, you need to, you need a script. Ready? You need to understand what you're going to say. If. You have guests, then you need to define what you're going to ask. If you're recording soda, then you need to also define and what you're going to talk about.
Once you have that, you need to set up your price place for recording the smaller the room, the better, the softer, the walls in the room. The better. Uh, and then the, if you get those two, right, and you have your mic with the headphones and the pop filter, you're going to get good audio next up production and editing.
We need an intro and outro for the show. Here's just a potential, uh, intro it staff. Welcome to the podcast. Name, a podcast by you or your business name. We host this podcast because number one, The reason why people should listen. I'm your host, Tom hunt. That's like a simple intro you can use. So record an intro and an outro, and then we recommend highly recommend freelance editor to edit your episodes for you.
So you'll give the editor, your editor very outro, and you give them the real content, the raw audio that you've got from audacity, or that you have from, uh, zoom along with some podcasts here, music we, youth art list link will be blurred. If you want to use that. Once you have your first episodes edited, you can move on to the artwork and your show notes.
So artwork there, there's a few concepts that you need to understand here. So the image, it shows the first thing about your show. Um, so it has to try and represent what you shared about in image form, avoid fonts that are hard to read. Avoid clogging the Alex too many words and let your artwork show consistency.
There should be a consistency between the artwork, the name, the artwork for each episode, et cetera. So that's podcasts, artwork, um, show notes. We basically, you want to pick out the best things from the audio that someone can scan. If someone can scan and they get value from the show notes for that gonna immediately want to listen to episode next step six.
So is when we can finally. Finally start raising awareness. Oh, great way to do this is actually just to go into Facebook, LinkedIn subreddits, and then posts in examples of your divine work example of your title. Example that your description to get feedback here. You're actually getting feedback from people that could be listening to you if you're in the right communities, but you're also raising awareness for the show.
Could you can go back into those communities and then post, when you go live saying thanks so much for the feedback. Here's the podcast. Feel free to check it out. So that's a great way to get started, but in summary, I know I went through that super fast, but that six steps, you now have the tools to start a podcast.
