There’s a special kind of irony in building a successful business that you can’t escape. Richard Shaull knows that feeling well.
In this episode of The Wealthy Entrepreneur, host Bob Gauvreau sits down with Richard, author of Exit Without Selling and founder of Adventure Capital Group, to unpack why so many entrepreneurs remain deeply embedded in businesses they supposedly built for freedom.
The conversation also gets practical as Richard explains what a true “dream team” looks like, why not every founder needs a COO, and how to distinguish between an Executive Administrator, Chief of Staff, COO, or President depending on what the business actually needs.
At the heart of it all is one uncomfortable question: if you finally stepped out of the day-to-day, what would you actually step into?

About Richard:
Richard Shaull is an entrepreneur, author, consultant, and founder of Adventure Capital Group and Exit Without Selling.
His entrepreneurial journey began in high school with a music teaching business before moving into wealth management and, later, real estate redevelopment - a venture that became one of the hardest chapters of his career. That experience pushed him to rethink leadership, bring in a stronger second-in-command, and eventually spend years working as a second-in-command himself.
Today, Richard helps entrepreneurs identify and remove the decision, relationship, knowledge, time, and revenue dependencies keeping them trapped inside their businesses. His book, Exit Without Selling, explores how owners can build companies that thrive without requiring them in the middle of everything.
